“Each of us Save an Enriched Nature Environment”

Tadanori Matsuo
President and Chief Operating Officer
TAMAGAWA SEIKI CO., LTD.
Tamagawa Group has set the “Long-term Environmental Target 2050” as its goal to achieve the CO₂ emissions virtually zero (carbon neutrality) at its company*1 by 2050. Tamagawa Group is united in its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality with the aim of achieving a sustainable society and mitigating the impact of global warming.
In order to achieve the carbon neutrality stated in “long-term environmental target 2050”, we will work on the efficient use of energy (energy saving) and renewable energy to reduce CO₂ emissions.
Energy conservation improves the efficiency of energy usage through the introduction of energy-saving equipment and efficient equipment. In addition, we will reduce energy consumption by reviewing product design and manufacturing processes, reducing unnecessary energy consumption, renovating offices to make them more energy-efficient, and consolidating and integrating facilities.
Renewable energy will include the procurement of renewable energy, the use of certificates and credits, and the proactive introduction of energy sources with CO₂ zero emissions such as solar power generation. From 2030 onwards, we will use next-generation technologies, such as electric power systems and hydrogen energy. We will regularly check the progress of these plans, review their activities, enhance their efforts, and upgrade them.
Tamagawa Group will work to reduce CO₂ emissions in accordance with Environmental Action Plan 2027, which covers the three years from 2025 to 2027.
Under Environmental Action Plan 2027, we set the following targets for reducing total CO₂ emissions, using CO₂ emissions from our own sites in fiscal year 2020 as the base year.
In order to achieve this goal, we aim to achieve the target by reducing CO₂ emissions at first through energy conservation, and then purchasing renewable CO₂-free electricity for parts that cannot be reduced through energy conservation.
Tamagawa Seiki has established an environmental management system based on ISO 14001 and is advancing environmental improvement activities with a unified company-wide approach. Within the environmental management system, the execution leaders set environmental goals, and the environmental committee reviews progress and shares environmental issues, driving activities to address these challenges. The internal environmental audit team conducts annual audits to assess the compliance and effectiveness of the system.
Environmental Management Structure
At Tamagawa Seiki, we comply with environmental regulations and work to reduce environmental impact through our ISO 14001 initiatives. We have obtained external ISO 14001 certification for three production sites and five factories, one group company within Japan.
Additionally, we undergo an annual audit by an external ISO 14001 certification body to ensure that our environmental management system is functioning effectively.

In order to prevent environmental pollution, the Environment Department and the Plant Management Department regularly patrol the plant to check the status of compliance with environmental laws and regulations. In addition, energy-saving patrols are conducted on an irregular basis for the purpose of energy management at sites.

● Participation in the Tenryu River Environmental Picnic
In conjunction with the Tenryu River Environmental Picnic (sponsored by the Nagano Prefectural Industrial Promotion Organization), which flows through the Iida district of Nagano Prefecture, we are picking up trash along a tributary of the Tenryu River and cleaning up the area around our workplace.
With the participation of volunteer employees, we are continuing our efforts to protect the local natural environment by walking around the workplace for about an hour, collecting trash and eradicating burrs.
● Participation in Environmental Volunteer "Mabechi River Cleanup Campaign"
We are participating in the Southern Aomori Prefecture Environmental Volunteer "Mabuchi River Clean-up Operation." This activity is organized every year by the local "Mabuchi River Lovers Association" with the cooperation of local government agencies and surrounding businesses, with the aim of "cleaning up the Mabechi River, which flows through southern Aomori Prefecture, and leaving a region blessed with clean water and beautiful nature for future generations." We work with local residents to walk along the Mabechi River, picking up trash and working to beautify the surrounding area.
● Participation in the Hachinohe Hightech Park Clean Operation
We are participating in the "Hachinohe High-Tech Park Clean-Up Campaign," which cleans up Hachinohe High-Tech Park, where our Hachinohe First and Second Factories are located in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture. This activity is sponsored by Hachinohe Intelligent Plaza Co., Ltd., the management company of Hachinohe High-Tech Park, and is held with the aim of carrying out environmental beautification activities together with the various companies within the park and promoting mutual exchange. We have been participating since 2000. Our group companies not only pick up trash on the premises, but also maintain walking paths and trim tall branches.
● Participation in "Environmental Action Week"
Tamagawa Seiki is a member of the “Regional ISO Study Group,” a coalition of local government and businesses in the Iida-Shimoina region of Nagano Prefecture, and collaborates with the community on environmental initiatives. We regularly participate in the "Environmental Action Week" organized by the study group. This initiative aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from households and enhance environmental and health awareness through simple actions.
● Bamboo forest maintenance work
As a local company, we are cooperating in efforts to maintain the bamboo groves that grow on both banks of the Engozawa River, which flows near our Head Office and First Plant (Iida City, Nagano Prefecture).
Bamboo has grown abundantly along both banks of the river for approximately 1 km, deteriorating the landscape and posing problems for the local area, such as illegal dumping of garbage. Furthermore, Madake (true bamboo), which makes up much of the bamboo grove, was cultivated extensively during the Meiji period as agricultural material, but demand has now declined and it is no longer suitable for consumption, leading to the problem of erosion of satoyama (village woodlands) across the country.
