Clean air and clean water
are environmental conditions essential to
production of high-quality products in the
precision machining industry.
The Spring of Sarukura is located about l
km northwest of Tamagawa Seiki. The water,
designated as one of the l00 purest waters
of Japan by the Environment Agency, is well-known
for its cleanliness. It is another proof that
this area is favored with a clean environment.
There is a legend that this spring was discovered
in the mountains of Fuetsu upstream of the
Matsukawa river by Ryukei, a master of tea
ceremony in the Edo period (1603-1867). Lord
Hori of the Iida clan also used the water
for his tea ceremony. Today this spring is
found amidst a beautiful forest of sugi (Japanese
cedar) and hinoki (Japanese cypress).
You can drink from a water conduit provided
at the spring. |

This clock tower,
popularly called "Humming Pal",
was born as a new symbol of Iida City, which
is known as a city of apple trees lined along
streets and as a city of puppet shows. At
the show time, a fanfare is trumpeted by the
"guard of time" sitting on the roof
, then the door under the clock opens and
four puppets perform a puppet drama "Mariotopia"
to the narration. |
